What We Believe
About God…
There is one living and true God, the maker and preserver of all things
In this Godhead there are three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
About The Son…
The Son was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary
Jesus suffered, was crucified, dead and buried
Jesus rose victorious from the dead and ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Father and will return to judge all people
About The Holy Spirit…
The Holy Spirit is the administrator of the salvation planned by the Father and provided by the Son’s death, resurrection and ascension
The Holy Spirit is poured out upon the church by the Father and the Son
About The Scriptures…
The Bible is God’s written Word, uniquely inspired by the Holy Spirit
The Bible has authority over all human life
The Old Testament is not contrary to the New, both bear witness to God’s salvation in Christ and speak of God’s will for His people
The New Testament fulfills and interprets the Old Testament
About Humankind…
God created human beings in His own image, innocent, morally free and responsible to choose between good and evil, right and wrong
By the sin of Adam, humans are from birth inclined to sin
God’s law for all human life is expressed in two divine commandments: Love the Lord God will all your heart, and love others as yourself
Good works cannot save us from our sins nor God’s judgment
About The Church…
The church is created by God, is the people of God and exists to fulfill the purposes of God
Public worship and prayer and the administration of the sacraments should be in a language understood by the people
Water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the sacraments commanded by Christ
Baptism is a declaration of our faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour
In receiving the Lord’s Supper, we are partaking in the body and blood of Christ (though no change is effected in the element)
About Salvation…
Christ offered once and for all the one perfect sacrifice for the sins of the whole world
We have a new life in Christ
We have been freed from the guilt and penalty of our sin
We are born again in Christ
We are children of God
Through sanctification, God sets us free to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love our neighbour as ourselves
By repentance before God, forgiveness is granted and our relationship with Christ restored.
About Last Things…
The Kingdom of God is now and also the future
The return of Christ is certain
The dead will be resurrected
God will judge the world
Our eternal destiny is determined by God’s grace and our response
